This city is the number one spot to retire – and it’s not in the state you may think

When it comes time for retirement, many people choose a sunny spot with an array of restaurants and activities like golf.
Cities like Orlando, Florida, or Charleston, South Carolina, are known for their retirees, but there’s a new city that was recently named the top city to retire in the U.S.
Scottsdale, Arizona, has become America’s No. 1 city for retirees, according to Niche.com. The website calculates the result looking at factors like crime rates, housing costs, diversity and demographics.
It’s a desirable location because of its warm weather, high living standard and low crime. It has over 240,000 full-time residents now, 25 percent of which are seniors.

Travel + Leisure reported the city also has access to excellent healthcare. It’s just northeast of Phoenix, meaning the amenities of the larger city are at the disposal of Scottsdale residents.
Scottsdale is known for having an active social scene, with plenty of dining options, coffee shops, parks and golf courses. It also has the highest concentration of spas per capita in the country, as well as plenty of outdoor recreation.
While there are plenty of advantages to Scottsdale, one of its issues is cost of living. The median home value in Scottsdale is $651,800, which is twice the national average. Cost of living is 13 percent higher than the national average.
Reviews for the city on Niche.com are mostly positive. One reviewer said the city has one of the Mayo Clinics in the country.
They said: “Scottsdale is a wonderful place to live. Amazing shopping, fine dining all around the city. Way less traffic than other densely populated areas.”
One user who moved to the city in the 1990s had a different opinion. They said the influx of new residents is changing the town.
They wrote: “Northern Scottsdale used to be enjoyable western desert but it’s been completely overrun with asinine mcmansions.”
